Whippet Clothes Guide › Whippet Pajamas and Rompers: What to Wear Indoors
From Houndz in the Hood, based on the fitting notes of founder Terri Goodwillie, who has made breed-fitted dog clothes in New York City since 1999. Updated October 2026.
Short answer: for sleeping and lounging, choose fleece Jammies. For air-conditioning, travel, sun and warm days, choose cotton Rompers. For a cool house, or to go straight from the couch to a walk, choose the Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuit. Whippets get cold quickly even indoors, so the recommendation inside is the same as outside: a bodysuit-style garment, not a shirt.
Indoor bodysuits compared
| Style | Fabric | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jammies | Micro chamois fleece, light and warm | Sleeping under the covers or on top, lounging, day and night | $56 |
| Rompers | Stretchy cotton bodysuit | Air-conditioning, cars, plane rides, camping, sun, drizzle, warm-ups | $54 |
| Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuits | Midweight fleece that resists wind and rain | A cool house, lounging and sleeping, and outside in chilly weather | $70 |
Do Whippets need pajamas?
Whippets get cold quickly, even indoors. Jammies are light and warm, so your dog stays cozy sleeping under the covers or on top. They stretch for easy on and off, with no velcro, zippers or clasps, and are machine washable and dryable.
Rompers for heat, sun and travel
Rompers are a full stretch cotton bodysuit. They are made for air-conditioned houses and cars, camping trips and plane rides, and sun protection. They add a little warmth on cool days, keep your dog dry in a drizzle, and are handy for agility practice and warm-ups. On a hot, sunny day you can wet a Romper down to help your dog stay cool outside. Machine wash cool, dry in low heat.
The Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuit
If you want one suit for the house and for chilly walks, this is it. The midweight fleece is comfortable for lounging and sleeping inside, and outside it resists wind and rain. It is also great for travelling, hiking and camping.
What about shirts and sweatshirts?
Lightweight Shirts ($40) are breathable stretch cotton, and Heavyweight Sweatshirts ($40) are heavy fleeced cotton with full chest coverage. They make nice extras, but they leave the back legs bare. For indoor comfort, we recommend the bodysuits above first.
On the road
For a car ride or a flight, a Romper keeps a Whippet comfortable in air-conditioning without being too warm. For camping or a cool cabin, the Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuit works inside and out, and Jammies are made for sleeping under the covers or on top.
Don’t wear winter fleece inside
Heavy Fleece, Windblock and Extra Heavy bodysuits are made for outside only. Swap to Jammies or a Romper when you come home.
Fit indoors
All of these use the same Whippet sizes (20, 22, 24) as our winter bodysuits. See how to measure.
