The Dachshund Clothes Guide › Dachshund Pajamas and Rompers: What to Wear Indoors
From Houndz in the Hood, based on the fitting notes of founder Terri Goodwillie, who has made breed-fitted dog clothes in New York City since 1999. Updated October 2026.
Short answer: for sleeping and lounging, choose fleece Jammies. For air-conditioning, travel, heat and sun, choose Rompers, our stretch cotton bodysuits. For a cool house or days when your dog goes in and out, choose the Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuits. Shirts, sweatshirts and sweaters are extras on top of that.

Jammies for sleeping
Dachshund Jammies are light and warm, made for lounging, sleeping under the covers or on top, and staying cozy day and night. The fabric is micro chamois fleece, the kind used for babies’ clothes. They stretch to go on, have no velcro, zippers or clasps, and are machine washable and dryable, so they can go in the wash with your own laundry.
Rompers for heat, sun, air-conditioning and travel
Rompers are a full stretch cotton bodysuit. They are made for air-conditioned houses and cars, camping trips and plane rides, and for dogs whose skin is sensitive to the sun. They also keep your dog dry from drizzle, work for agility practice and warm-ups, and are comfortable to sleep in. On a hot, sunny day you can wet a Romper down to keep your dog cool. Rompers have a discreet leash opening on the back, so they work on walks and trips too.
Why a bodysuit beats a shirt indoors
A Lightweight Shirt is a breathable stretch cotton layer, and a Heavyweight Sweatshirt is cozy in a chilly house. Both are fun extras. But a Romper or Jammies cover the legs and belly as well as the back, which on a long, low Dachshund is where drafts and cold floors reach first. That is why we recommend the bodysuit first and the top as an extra.
The in-between choice: Indoor/Outdoor
If your dog goes in and out all day, the Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuit saves changing. It resists wind and rain outside and is light enough to keep on inside. Remember that Heavy, Extra Heavy and Windblock fleece bodysuits are for outside only.
Fit indoors
Jammies and Rompers use the same five Dachshund sizes (XS to XL) as our winter bodysuits. See how to measure, and our guide to putting a bodysuit on works for Jammies and Rompers too.
