Italian Greyhound Clothes Guide › Sizing Clothes for a Growing Italian Greyhound
From Houndz in the Hood, based on the fitting notes of founder Terri Goodwillie, who has made clothes for Italian Greyhounds in New York City since 1999. Updated October 2026.
Short answer: measure your young Iggy’s length and chest, buy for the size they fit now, and expect to size up. Italian Greyhounds can reach full length at 12 to 14 months while their chest is still filling out, so always tell us your dog’s age when you order.
How Iggies grow into their clothes
Our very first Bodysuit was made for Matisse before he was full grown. When he turned one, it no longer fit and we made the next size up. That is normal: a young Italian Greyhound often has an adult-length back but a chest that is still 1 or 2 inches short of its final size.
Tips for young dogs
- Re-measure length and girth every few weeks while your dog is growing.
- Go by the chest. If the length says 16 but the chest says 14, write both in your order comments and we’ll advise.
- Note your dog’s age in the order so we can factor in growth.
- Don’t size up “to grow into” a winter bodysuit. A loose suit lets cold air in at the chest and legs.
Size chart
| Size | Length | Girth (chest) | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 | 13-14" | 15-16.5" | 7-11 lbs |
| 16 | 15-16" | 17-19" | 11-16 lbs |
| 18 | 17-18" | 19.5-21" | 16-23 lbs |
Size 14 is our smallest Italian Greyhound size. For a very small puppy, contact us with the measurements; our Toy & Teacup or Miniature lines may fit for now.

Frequently asked questions
When is an Italian Greyhound full grown for clothes?
Many Italian Greyhounds reach full length at 12 to 14 months, but the chest can keep filling out after that. Measure both and note your dog's age when ordering.
Should I buy a bigger size for my Italian Greyhound puppy to grow into?
Not for winter wear. A loose bodysuit lets cold air in. Buy the size that fits now and size up as your dog grows.
