Short answer: a bodysuit fitted to the dog’s breed line is a gift a dog owner can use all year: Jammies for bed, a Romper for travel and summer, or a winter fleece bodysuit for walks. Ask the owner for the dog’s length and chest measurements first. If you can’t, a gift certificate lets them choose.
Step 1: get the measurements
Our clothes are sized by measurement, not weight, so the most useful thing you can do is ask the owner, casually, for:
- the breed (or mix)
- the dog’s length, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail
- the girth, around the largest part of the chest behind the front legs
Send them our how to measure guide if they have never measured their dog. With those numbers, check the right sizing guide or send them to us and we’ll recommend a size.

Which style for which owner?
- Lives somewhere with real winters: a Heavy Fleece or Windblock bodysuit. Hooded styles cover the head, ears and neck.
- Travels with their dog, or lives somewhere warm: a Romper.
- Has a dog that burrows under blankets: Jammies.
- Not sure: an Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuit, which can be worn inside and out.
If the size isn’t right
Unworn garments with tags can be exchanged within 14 days of receipt. If the product was a gift, the recipient makes a copy of the invoice and writes on it the size or color they want. Exchanges of up to 2 garments are re-shipped free within the US.
Gift certificates

Timing
Orders ship within 48 hours by insured USPS Ground Advantage, and US orders of $125 and over ship free, handy if you are buying for more than one dog. If you need a gift by a certain date, email admin@houndzinthehood.com before you order.
