Short answer: measure your puppy’s length and chest, buy the size it fits now, and tell us its age. As a guide, Miniature puppies aged four to six months wear Petite/XXS, Miniatures aged 6 to 9 months typically wear XS, full-grown Miniatures and in-betweenies wear XS through M, and Standards wear L and XL.

Measure, don’t guess
Age is only a starting point. Two puppies of the same age can be very different sizes, especially in a Miniature litter or an in-betweenie. Measure with a soft tape:
- Length: base of the neck, about 1 inch in front of the withers, to the base of the tail.
- Girth: around the deepest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
Then compare both numbers with the chart:

Tips for growing Dachshunds
- Tell us the age. Our size chart asks you to let us know if your dog is under 13 months. Put it in the comments section of your order.
- Write the chest size in the comments if your puppy is between sizes or very large or small chested. Dachshund chests can be 3 to 4 inches larger than their lengths, and a puppy’s proportions change as it grows.
- Re-measure as your puppy grows, and size up when the length or chest moves into the next size.
- A mix? Tell us the breeds. The Dachshund line fits dogs with a rounded body, no tuck and a broad chest.
What to buy first for a puppy
A puppy’s first piece is usually a bodysuit for going out. In fall, spring or a mild winter, the Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuits ($52) can be worn inside and out.
