How to Wash and Dry Fleece Dog Clothes

The Dog Bodysuit Guide › How to Wash and Dry Fleece Dog Clothes

From Houndz in the Hood, based on the fitting notes of founder Terri Goodwillie, who has made breed-fitted dog clothes in New York City since 1999. Updated October 2026.

Short answer: every Houndz in the Hood bodysuit is machine washable. Most fleece and cotton styles wash in cool water and dry on low heat. Windblock and Extra Heavy Windblock are the exception: wash them in cold water and air dry only. They dry in minutes.

Windblock: cold water, air dry

Windblock fleece is two fleeces with a polyurethane layer between them, which makes it wind-blocking and water-repellent. Its care line is different from our other fleeces: wash it in cold water and let it air dry. The good news is that it dries in minutes, so a muddy suit can be ready again by the next walk. See what windblock fleece is.

The outer fleece fights off stains

The outer fleece on Windblock styles is treated to be water and stain repellent, and our Heavy Fleece Sweaters repel water. Our Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuits resist wind and rain and are described as easy to take care of.

A simple routine

  1. Check the care line on the product page or label for your garment.
  2. Sort by care: cool-wash-and-low-dry items together, cold-wash-and-air-dry Windblock on its own.
  3. Wash as directed.
  4. Dry as directed: low heat or light for most styles, air dry for Windblock and Extra Heavy Windblock.

Having a spare helps

If your dog wears a bodysuit every day in winter, a second suit means one can be in the wash while the other is on the dog. One easy pairing is a winter fleece with an Indoor/Outdoor Bodysuit, which can be worn inside and out on milder days. Examples:
